Pollen and Mold Counts

Pollen and Mold Counting at the Asthma & Allergy Center of Whatcom County; Serving Bellingham and Whatcom County

Pollen and mold counts are obtained from the Asthma & Allergy Center's pollen counting station utilizing a Rotorod Aeroallergen Sampler. Counts are updated three to five times per week and provide a general representation of pollen and mold counts throughout Bellingham and Whatcom County. Pollen and mold counts are reported according to the National Allergy Bureau's NAB count designations. The count refers to the number of pollen grains or mold spores per cubic meter over the 24 hour time period ending at 8 am of the day reported. Mold count designations are different than those for pollens and therefore will generally be low or moderate in spite of higher numbers counted. There are many other trees that produce allergenic pollen in our area than those represented in the pollen counts, including maple, oak, walnut.

The background of this page is a photomicrograph taken at the Asthma & Allergy Center on March 15, 2015, at 400x power. The light pink pollens directly left and right of this sentence are cedar pollens, and the darker red pollens at at upper corners are alder pollens.
